Meccas of Pro-Cycling
3 Countries, 1 Race

The Meccas of Pro Cycling is a premium, guided tour that follows the opening week of La Vuelta a España 2026 across Spain, France, and Andorra. The diversity of the route is incredible from the beauty of Girona, to the high mountains of the French and Andorran Pyrenees, and back down to the golden East Mediterranean Coast. These are the exact roads where the world’s best professional riders live, train, and this week race!

This tour truly has it all: legendary climbs, iconic stages, VIP mountain finishes, and breathtaking coastal riding. If you want to experience La Vuelta like a pro, this is as close as it gets as you ride the race route just ahead of the peloton!

Your journey begins with pickup in Barcelona, before heading north to Girona, cycling Mecca #1. Home to countless World Tour riders, Girona offers the perfect warm-up with stunning routes through rolling hills and out to the Mediterranean coast. It’s the ideal place to dial in your bike, meet the team, and soak up the pro cycling atmosphere before the mountains arrive.

From Girona, we move into the Pyrenees and Andorra, Mecca #2, riding one of the most celebrated VIP mountain stages of La Vuelta. Compare your times to the pros! We then stay longer to conquer additional legendary cols—because once you’re here, why rush?

The final chapter takes us to the East Mediterranean Coast, finishing in Denia, cycling Mecca #3. Ride famous training roads, tackle scenic category 1 climbs, and take on the ultimate stage finish with VIP access: the Alto de Aitana summit, the scene previously where Quintana secured his win over Froome.

This is a true La Vuelta cycling experience—diverse, exciting, great riding and top access in the quieter week 1.

Day 1. Sunday 23 August 2026
Pick up Barcelona, Girona Ride (Girona)

La Vuelta Cycling Tour, Following the Pros80km / 50 miles

Meet at our centrally located hotel in Barcelona (option to book the same hotel the night before). Barcelona is a vibrant city and a great place to start our adventure. Say hola to the crew and other guests at informal welcome meeting. We then transfer out to Girona and have a bike fitting to ensure everyone is comfortable.

We take a fantastic warm up ride, on one of the most famous roads and climbs in Girona, this true Mecca of pro-cycling. This day is all about getting used to the bike and enjoying a classic ride. These are the roads of the peloton as many use Girona as a winter base. Lance Armstrong, George Hincapie, Tyler Hamilton and the US Postal team made it infamous, being their preferred place to train for the Tour de France!

Back to the hotel after the ride, take an early evening dip in the roof-top pool! Enjoy a group welcome dinner together. Girona is a great destination with its museums, city walls and historic centre.

Day 2. VIP Summit Finish – French Pyrenees (Andorra)

Primoz Roglic and Vingegaard at La Vueltaup to 80 km / 50 miles

After a buffet breakfast, we transfer from the hotel and head into nearby France. We are soon on today’s race route, cycling through villages with expectant French fans beginning to line the roadside. This is your first taste of La Vuelta, and in France!

Soon we head into the Pyrenees and head over the tough cat 1 Col de Mont Louis. After descending and catching our breath, it’s time to climb again to the finish line at Font Romeu. Your deserved prize is a place in VIP area at the finish line as we await today’s stage winner.

La Vuelta stage 3 French Pyrenees

After seeing the podium celebrations, we move with the teams and transfer to our spa hotel in Andorra, our base for the next two nights.

Take an evening stroll in the centre to see the sights, before a group dinner together.

To explain, the VIP Hospitality Area – This is an exclusive part of our La Vuelta tour packages, where each of our cyclists have access to the VIP zone, with a personalized accreditation given on a lanyard at the start of our tour. Here, just meters from the Meta Finish line, see the riders finish the race, preview the stats, and watch the ongoing race beforehand via large plasma TVs in the area before it arrives! Also included is an open bar and tapas tasters. We have access to podiums, press areas, and doping controls.

Day 3. VIP Mountain Stage Finish, Andorra Pyrenees (Andorra)

upto 104 km / 65 miles

A fantastic day awaits as we experience some legendary Vuelta climbs. We will ride the race route today from the front door of our hotel – an unique and incredible experience for any cyclist we head out into the Pyrenees. It’s an explosive stage of around 100km for the pros and most of us will ride the last cat 2s and the finale cat 3. The cycling is stunning, as we ascend the Beixalis and then our favourite being the Coll d’Ordino, a windy 8.9km climb with an average gradient of 5%. The final Comella is short but spicy with a kick at end!

La Vuelta 26 Andorra Pyrenees

After riding the stage through this small Principality, we will enter our VIP Hospitality area. Enjoy the open bar and tapas food as we await the arrival of the pros.

With VIP access tapas, drinks and the best views, we will also have a special insider’s tour of the behind the scenes working of the La Vuelta. Enjoy access to the doping control, press and tv commentary zones and the podiums. Stand on the podium and have your own La Vuelta photos, only hours before the stage winners and race leader will be there. An unforgettable experience in the week.

After the podium celebrations, take a night off in the capital of Andorra, where we are based. It’s a great place to explore and enjoy the duty free shopping!

Day 4. Extra Andorra Pyrenees Ride (Castellón, East Coast)

up to 80 km  /  50 milesRiding La Vuelta a España

As we are here in another Mecca of cycling, we have decided to spend time riding more of Andorra and her incredible Pyrenean roads! For many years La Vuelta has used this as a playground to test the best climbers. It is also the home of over 50 pro riders such as Sepp Kuss, Adam Yates (Simon as well – retired!), Tom Pidcock and Alaphilippe. We will ride a legendary loop, and climb the cat 1 Rabassa, a 14km ascent with avg grade of 6%, into the forest high above the city. It was a stage finish in 2018 when Pinot won.

After a late lunch, we take the long van transfer south, crossing back into Spain, to head to our beach side base on the East Coast of Spain, in Castellón on the Costa Azahar (the Orange Blossom coast). We will stop en route to watch the stage finish on tv (today’s stage is a flat transition stage, and we expect a sprint finish).

Our 4 star hotel tonight has all the mod cons and a pool. Great to relax after a longer day! We take a group dinner tonight.

Day 5.  Live Race Viewing  – Mountain Loop (Castellón, East Coast)

up to 85 km  / 53 miles

After a hearty breakfast, we are perfectly located to ride from our hotel door to the nearby race route. What a day we have planned and something very different – how about some dirt riding on your road bike? Why, because today’s stage 6 features a climb that has not been asphalted! An innovative route, we will ride over the Alto del Desierto in, and instead of going to the finish to see the race, will watch it on the dirt section of the final El Bartolo Cat 1 climb with all the fans roadside. Expect a fantastic atmosphere in true Vuelta style with the passionate fans.

La Vuelta 2026 Stage 6 Castello

After watching the race pass, we will descend the mountain and continue on the race route back to the finish line area in Castellón. From here we ride back to our nearby hotel. Tonight we have another group dinner. After eating, take time to enjoy a walk into town or along the coast.

Day 6. VIP Stage Depart (Denia, East Coast)

up to 85 km  /  53 milesRide La Vuelta a España bike tour

After breakfast, we head out to the nearby stage 7 depart village and enjoy VIP access . Enjoy the buzz of the team buses arriving and walk around seeing the stars of cycling. This is the place to spot your favourite riders and teams and get some amazing snaps. Watch the daily sign on of the riders and be there at the start line to see them depart. A fascinating insight into the the world of pro cycling.

To Explain – The Vuelta Depart Village is an added perk of our VIP hospitality package. Each day the teams sign on to start the day in a presentation, but prior to this, the riders are warming up, giving interviews, signing autographs and prepping their bikes. With our VIP passes, we have access to an area of local businesses and patrons who have stands where we can get nibbles, drinks and gifts and enjoy the friendly atmosphere.

Having watched the peloton leave, we will transfer south to our 5 star spa resort hotel in Denia, our Mecca#3 of Pro-cycling! This is one of the most popular places for pro-teams train in the winter, and the roads around here are magnificent. And so we will ride a coastal loop from the hotel in the afternoon, heading to the scenic beach resorts along the Costa Blanca. It hits all the highs with sweeping views over the Mediterranean. Back at our base, have time for a swim or spa, or relax in the grounds.

Group dinner tonight, enjoying some local cuisine and wines.

Day 7. Famous climbs of Costa Blanca (Denia)

92 km  /  57 milesA much more relaxed day today, as we will cycle another loop ride from our hotel after a later breakfast. As the stage today is flat and for the sprinters, we have decided to take a day away from the race and ride probably the most famous road of the area.

We ride from our coastal base to the inland village of Tarbena. Then is time for the legendary Coll de Rates climb, a scenic 7 km masterpiece, but with a nice gradient of 6%. We head to the famous Musette cafe, a coffee stop for pro-riders when they train. We are in the high forests where the asphalt is smooth, traffic is low and the descents breath-taking. A glorious day of riding is capped off by free time back at our beachside hotel. Take a swim or enjoy the scenery. We are all thinking of tomorrows big stage.

Take the evening off and head into Denia. It’s many restaurants will cater for all tastes!

Day 8. VIP Cat 1 Summit Finish – Alto de Aitana (Denia)

86 km  /  54 milesToday is the stage that could turn the week one leader board on its head. We are soon riding the race route of stage 9 (we aim for the last 86 km) as we cycle through the inland mountains before attempting the big finish, inside a military base! This cat 1 is long, but a doable climb. We were last here at the Alto de Aitana in 2016 when we witnessed Nairo Quintana ride strongly to take his Vuelta win from Chris Froome. A great atmosphere is expected today on this Queen Stage Finish of the week.

La Vuelta 2026 Stage 9 Alto De Aitana

With VIP access at the finish, it will be a fantastic final. We will see the podium celebrations and who takes the Red jersey into week 2.

We head back to our hotel on the coast, and enjoy a group dinner, capping off a great week of riding.

Day 9. Monday 31 August – Onward travels

After breakfast, we take a transfer to nearby Alicante for mid morning. It’s time to say adíos as we say goodbye. Alicante has an airport and well connected train line. Alternatively, continue onwards with us and be ready for Week 2 of La Vuelta! (please ask for arrangements).

Reviews

La Vuelta Spain Bike Tour

“Thanks so much to all the team, especially the guides of Geoff, Dean, Santiago and Jose. This Vuelta experience was breathtaking and the planning that went into it was evident. I can’t say enough good things about this experience. Thank-you.”
J. & G. Courtney, Philadelphia, USA – La Vuelta 2023

“Cycling Country’s Last Week to Madrid tour was the trip of a lifetime for my wife and me.
We are not cyclists ourselves but fell in love with the sport from watching the Tour de France on TV starting 20 years ago. For years we talked about attending a grand tour in person, and last year we finally did. We chose Cycling Country’s Vuelta because their promotional material sounded good, the price was reasonable, and my email correspondence with CC’s Maggi was always helpful and thoroughly delightful. CC promised VIP access and, if anything, they understated the case. Two examples: At the start of one day’s race, we stood at the back of the stage while the riders signed in. At the finish of another, we stood directly next to the TV camera at the finish line. Every day, we rode in one of the support vans while the other members of the group were riding the race route, so we got to know the fabulous staff- Geoff, Javier and Dean. They were consummate group leaders, always making sure we and the riders (and their bikes) were well taken care of. Our accommodations were incredible- centuries-old castles that had been converted to luxury hotels- and the food was fantastic. If you love cycling, or even if you just love to watch, you will love going on a Cycling Country tour. 💙❤️🖤💛💚.”
J. & L. Hickman, Minnesota, USA – La Vuelta Sept 2019 – Week 3 to Madrid

“Hi Geoff and Maggi
We just wanted to say a huge thank you for the fabulous three weeks we had with you both, Javi and Dean.
Looking back on the photos we packed so much into those three weeks. We love Spain and love seeing it on a bike with you. You run your business extremely professionally yet we all get very personal attention.
Thanks once again.”
J & T. De Vries & C. Lazenby, Vic, Australia – La Vuelta 2019 – All Three Tours!

“Thanks so much for an excellent trip. It was all (and more) that I had hoped for. Geoff you are an excellent guide – very helpful and great at managing expectations. I would be pleased to help you spread the word about your company and the excellent experience you provide. Thanks again – it was fabulous!”
J & R. Anderson & D. Grant – Ottawa, Ontario – La Vuelta 2019 – Tour 2 Northern Summits

“We returned to Andalucia for the 2018 La Vuelta having enjoyed the la Vuelta 2017 tour so much with Cycling Country.
We expected to repeat that enjoyment and we were not disappointed.
Great riding, great viewing, the best of hotels and food and an interesting and challenging group of cyclists.
Geoff and Maggi, our hosts, dedicated themselves 100% to our pleasure and comfort and were ably assisted by the two bike guides, Dean and Javi.
All participants have their own priorities. For some their own cycling, for others watching the professionals really close up and intimate.
For us it was a combination of those two, plus staying in such lovely hotels, you couldn’t find better, where we rubbed shoulders with the teams from Trek, Sky and Bahrain.
From the modern sophistication of our 4 star hotel in Malaga and the 5 star hotel in Granada to the stunning beauty of the Parador hotels in Ronda and Nerja.
The riding was hard and hot and, for the most part, great fun.
Anyone who says the last km of the 2540m Sierra Nevada climb is ‘fun’ doesn’t inhabit the same planet.
Nice climbs and even more spectacular descents, particularly the Puerto de Leon.
We look forward to next year’s tour with anticipation knowing that whatever the route, whatever the composition and size of the group, we will have fun.”
J & P. Sharman, London, UK – La Vuelta 2018

“La Vuelta’s epic climbs – a truly spectacular and special cycling week with Cycling Country. Even in a country blessed with great places to ride, Andalusia stands out as a truly spectacular region. La Vuelta offers climbs that legends are made of. It offers beauty, brutality, drama and this year a piece of cycling history with Contador’s Angliru ending I would like to thank Cycling Country (CC) for the enthusiasm and vision in creating an outstanding week, and for their impeccable support with logistics. I love the accessibility and closeness CC provides to La Vuelta. You are never too far away from the pros. Meeting a former road racing cyclist provided enormous insight in the running of La Vuelta. Having the group stay in the same hotels as the professional teams provided the opportunity to meet mechanics, support people and also the professionals. As an Italian supporting Vincenzo Nibali I was excited to know I was staying in the same hotel as the Bahrain-Merida team. Although following La Vuelta so closely I still managed to go out and enjoy the local custom. In Almeria I went really local by having a couple of drinks at Cafe Bar Nevada and dined at Cafe Puga. I think I was the only non-Spanish so you could not have found a more local place. I found similar places in Granada. Additionally the delightful place we stayed at in Zuheros was special – probably one of prettiest villages and scenery in Andalusia. The cycling was superb. Given that the whole area can become swamped by cyclists during the Vuelta I thought CC did a fantastic job to keep everyone on target. It is clear that this is a family run business with great knowledge of the area. The guides are all local and provide enormous support and valuable insight. A true pleasure to be able to spend time with them. Geoff and Maggie, the owners, should be immensely proud for how they contribute to La Vuelta and how they run CC. Their tours contribute towards establishing the Vuelta as one of the most dramatic tours. Hasta Luego!!!”
C. Salinardi, London, UK – La Vuelta 2017

“With Cycling Country we made our first cycling trip to Europe. Geoff, Dean, Javi and the rest of the crew made our rides and say really happy. Balbino took care of my mom and showed her Spain while me and my brothers went riding, then we met at the finish line of La Vuelta stages. It was a terrific Trip and we will for sure do it again!!!”
D. Botero, Medalin, Columbia – La Vuelta 2017

“Awesome Vuelta a España tour, amazing VIP access, up close & personal with the riders! We recently did a Vuelta a Espana tour with Cycling Country, and had an amazing time. The tour was well-organized and thought out, with rider enjoyment in mind, both from the perspective of riding and spectating. The Spanish-based company clearly has a very close relationship with the race organizers, which is to the benefit of Cycling Country’s clients. The VIP access to starts and finishes, as well as the podium, were unbelievable. Because the race is smaller, it is also much more intimate, enabling access to the riders. The behind-the-scenes access and perspective was very interesting, as was the talk from a retired rider. This was our third time doing a trip with Cycling Country, and the reason we chose them for our Vuelta shadow tour. Previously we have done self-guided tours or fixed-stay trips, and have been very impressed and pleased with the company and the service it provides. Geoff and Maggi are wonderful people and it shows in their dealings with clients. We would definitely recommend Cycling Country for any of its tours, but especially the Vuelta a Espana tour!”
A. Sauve & Tim, Coburg, Ontario – La Vuelta 2017

“The Vuelta tour was probably the best bike tour I have ever done. Ok the days were long, but your team gave us the best access I have ever had to a Grand Tour. The routes you designed to ride the best climbs and see the stage finishes were exceptional. Chapeau!” “
John, Ontario, Canada – La Vuelta 2016

“Let me write a few lines of thank you. I just can’t believe what a trip you gave us all! It was truly a cycling tour that I will never forget. Well done to all of the Cycling Country crew and thank you again for the good times. The Vuelta was the ride of my life.”
Steve, Sydney, Australia – La Vuelta 2015

“That was an amazing trip to the Vuelta! So much behind-the-scenes access and some fab riding too. Thanks for everything!”
L. Rice, London, UK – La Vuelta 2015 -Depart & Southern Climbs

“The Vuelta Tour 1 (Andalucia 2014) was memorable! The VIP access was exceptional, beyond my expectations. Cycling Country beautifully handled different levels of cycling abilities in the group in the smoothest way, the coordination among them was very professional and efficient, providing to the group an ongoing feeling of safety, support and fun. I will highly recommend them to all my friends and they honestly deserve to run such a successful business. Muchas Gracias for the extraordinary experience! “
L. Sullivan, Colorado, USA – La Vuelta 2014

“Rob and I would like to take the opportunity to send you a big thank you for everything you organized for the tour. We had an amazing time. The ride routes where spectacular and the VIP access was fantastic. Dean and Javi were both lovely, very helpful and encouraging. We had the best time and keep reminiscing about the week wishing we were still in Andalusia. It definitely exceeded all our expectations and hopefully will see you at next years tour. Thank you again”
