Cycling Quotes

When traveling ourselves, we always ask, “how can we use this to make our trips better?”

For us it’s all about exploring, learning and being committed to cycling which makes us love what we do.

Our Story

Cycling Country was born from dreams made cycling touring across Europe into Asia, and independently travelling 65 countries. Doing what inspires them, Cycling Country set up base in the medieval Spanish village of Alhama de Granada in 2003. From here, they organise and run their tours. A remarkable place to live and cycle.

Geoff Norris

Geoff Norris

Founder | Director

Geoff, a cyclist since he could walk, comes from a business finance background having worked in his home town of London and then onto New York, Paris and Sydney. Growing up in London, he was part of the group that broke the British school’s cycling touring club record for distance cycling by clocking up a mileage of 251 miles (404km) in a day. Living in Alhama de Granada, he loves cycling the local sierras and bike packing abroad with their daughter on tandem. His favourite rides include the famous cols of the Pyrenees, the highlands of Sri Lanka, and when escaping the office, the mountains behind Málaga.
Maggi Jones

Maggi Jones

Founder | Director

Maggi decided to meld her love of cycle travel with her appetite for exploration by setting up Cycling Country with her husband Geoff. Favourite rides include the medieval area of Maramuris in northern Romania, the backroads of Queensland and cycling out of Lake Atitlan’s volcanic landscape in Guatemala.  Being the hot weather lover that she is, despite being Canadian, she was part of the first ever cycling expedition to tackle the 50+ degrees Celsius temperatures of the Danakil depression in Ethiopia, the “cruelest place on Earth”.
Dean Kinnerley

Dean Kinnerley

Guide

Dean, a racing cyclist with 30 years of road racing under his belt, has the great distinction of becoming the sub-champion of Andalucía and has ridden La Vuelta a España in the Masters category (the first English speaker to finish), and is never far from wheels and winners. Whilst racing in La Etapa of La Vuelta (placing 10th), he helped push Big Mig, former 5 time winner of the Tour de France, Miguel Indurain up a mountain whilst the great man put his chain back on (& still placed 10th). Catch him, if you can, flying up his local Sierra Nevada.
Javier Torres Palma

Javier Torres Palma

Guide

A local lad, who trained as an architect and is from Granada, Javi brings some Andaluz flavour to the team. Allow him to explain the pleasures of a good cut of iberico jamon or what makes a fine olive oil, there is no end to his knowledge of local produce. From a strong cycling family, Javi is often seen out on the roads of Granada, sometimes riding with his father who still likes to push it on those hills he has ridden all his life. Meet him on our Andalucian tours!

Dani Damas

Dani Damas

Guide

Another Granadino, Dani is a keen Mountain Biker in the fantastic Granada area and loves taking bikes apart (and of course putting them back together!). He is a great help with all things mechanical. He has enjoyed working in Oxford, England and is trained with a certificate in Tourism. He started out leading tours through Spain on 4 wheels (bus tours) and now downsized to 2! Dani has great experience in many fascinating parts of Spain and has a love and in-depth knowledge of his home country.

Balbino Quesada

Balbino Quesada

Guide

Balbino has many years of experience in climbing, swimming, skiing and triathlon. Winter work for many years has been guiding people in the snowy mountain ski slopes around Spain, which he loves. A family man with 2 young ones, he is always busy expanding his outlook whilst living in beautiful Murcia. Located near delicious vineyards, he will be trying to tempt you to forgo vinos of Rioja for those of Murcia! Loving being on a bike and with people are the main draws for Balbino, and he will enjoy sharing his knowledge on our tours.
