Bike France’s coastal cycle path from Bordeaux to Biarritz!
Bordeaux is the perfect city to start a cycling tour to Biarritz from! It’s very famous for its vineyards, but the historic sites and rich cultural heritage will inspire you for sure! From the amazing Bourse Palace with its incredible water mirror, to the Grand Theater and its UNESCO World Heritage old town, it is a wonderful city. Delicious capital of French wine and next to the Garone River, enjoy it before starting your cycling trip towards the French Basque Country!
Wind your way down the Atlantic coast not missing the awesome big sandpile of the Dune du Pilat, in the Arcachon Bay (a must for oyster lovers!), or stately Bayonne, with its colour and soaring church spires.
Breathe deeply of pine forests, long beaches, beautiful lakes… taking your time to coast along.

Day 1. Bordeaux, wine city!
Arrive in Bordeaux, ancient Roman city and delicious capital of wine. Admire its handsome stone buildings and marvel in its history, heritage and architecture. It is an impressive UNESCO World Heritage Site to spend time.
It is known as La Perle d’Aquitaine “the Pearl of Acquitaine” and its ancient town is lively with quaint narrow streets. It is a great place to start your French cycling adventure.
While here, visit La Cité du Vin (Wine Museum) and enjoy a tasting, learning about the magnificent grape and its lush produce!
Day 2. Bordeaux to Lacanau Plage
RIDE : 64 km | ASCENT : 60 m
Pedal along the pine forest following the Green Way to arrive in Lacanau-Ocean, a laid back popular beach town. These impressive sandy beaches with dunes and forests, lakes and unspoilt natural areas will make your day today.
It is a most peaceful cycling day, enjoying the song of the cicada while riding this landscape.

Day 3. Lacanau Plage to Arcachon
RIDE: 45 km | ASCENT: 50 m
Enjoy this coastal ride today, mainly on cycle paths and where you will be able to discover gorgeous beaches and wild coastal shore line spots along the way.
Explore beautiful Le Porge Océan, a 13km long beach, followed by a bike path cycling through oyster farming villages and riding to the top of Cap Ferret. A short ferry ride across this lovely bay of Arcachon will enchant you and if you ever wanted to taste these slippery aphrodisiacs, this is that place!
Day 4. Arcachon to Biscarrosse Plage
RIDE : 30 km | ASCENT : 100 m
Kick off your day with a visit to the famous Great Dune du Pilat. You can’t leave Arcachon leaving this behind! This is the Europe’s largest sand dune and the views from there are very impressive.
Your itinerary of today will be under the Landes forest and pines. You will now leave the Gironde region to arrive into Biscarrosse, the land of waves, dunes and beaches. Enjoy a night here and its unique ambiance. It is the perfect place to enjoy summer!
Day 5. Biscarrosse to Mimizan Plage
RIDE : 52 km | ASCENT: 115m
Leave the coast and go inland to discover beautiful lakes, such as the Lake of Cazaux and Sanguinet, which is one of the largest lakes in France. You will also find little lake ports along the way.
You will get to Mimizan, which started to be renowned when people considered that a bath in the sea was perfect for their health and wealthier people used to come and try.
Day 6. Mimizan Plage to Moliets
RIDE: 55 km | ASCENT: 130m
Today’s route, is peaceful, following the Velodysée cycle path through great forests and fields.
Deeply breath in this relaxing atmosphere and salty sea breeze while leisurely riding and enjoying the beautiful beach landscape along the way.
Day 7. Landes to Biarritz (Basque Country)
RIDE: 69 km | ASCENT: 120m
Your last day of cycling will get you into the Basque Country, while pedalling through famous beach towns such as Hossegor or Cap Breton.
It is a pleasant ride to arrive in Bayonne, the capital of the Basque Country, before getting to Biarritz. Bayonne is famous for its gastronomy, street art, festivities and of course history! Being the centre of the French Basque Country, its gothic cathedral, medieval walls, cloisters and the Old Castle you will feel like you stepped back in time.
Biarritz is a place to be on every surfer’s bucket-list and it has a grand atmosphere to end this Atlantic coastal cycling adventure with.
Day 8. Onward Travels
Enjoy your last moments in Biarritz before making your onward journey to other parts of this lovely country. (Or extend cycling the Basque Country further west from Biarritz to Saint Jean Pied de Port on our sister tour.)

Getting Here
The best way to arrive in Bordeaux is flying to its international airport. Most national flights only take a bit more than an hour to arrive.
